Chemical Peels

You’ve enjoyed your time in the sun, but you’re probably not enjoying the damage it has done to your skin. If you have wrinkles, discoloration and other premature signs of aging from sun exposure, a chemical peel can improve your appearance without surgery. Chemical peels in Harrisburg, PA can help restore a more youthful and tighter appearance to the skin. They may also be used to control acne, reduce the appearance of scars, correct pigment problems and even remove precancerous growths.

To learn more about chemical peels and other non-surgical treatments, request a consultation with Dr. Gayner online or call our office at  (717) 728-1700.

Facial peels are usually divided into superficial, medium and deep. Deeper peels can deliver more dramatic results, but they are also a more involved procedure requiring anesthesia and a longer recovery period. Dr. Gayner can help you determine which peel is right for you based on your skin type and cosmetic goals.

SPECTRA Laser Peel

Dr. Gayner also performs the SPECTRA Laser Peel for treatment of acne and enlarged pores. Unlike some laser treatments, the SPECTRA Peel is virtually painless and the results are quite dramatic. The SPECTRA Laser Peel is a safe treatment that is performed on thousands of men and women each year with no major complications. However, you should discuss any concerns and any skin conditions you may have during your consultation with Dr. Gayner.

THE SPECTRA PEEL FOR ACNE TREATMENT

The SPECTRA Laser Peel first attacks your acne deep in the dermis by stimulating skin cell regeneration and reducing inflammation. It then treats the active acne on your skin surface by gently removing the topmost layer of dead skin cells, unplugging pores, shrinking sebaceous glands and stimulating new skin growth.

Sebum levels, acne pimples and general skin condition will improve after the first session. Two to three treatments spaced two to three weeks apart should achieve quite dramatic results.

The degree of improvement will depend on your skin type and the severity of your acne but you will see considerable improvement after the first treatment. Not only will your acne be reduced, but also your general skin tone and texture will be noticeably improved.

THE SPECTRA PEEL FOR ENLARGED PORES

Photomechanical superficial peeling with the SPECTRA Laser Peel removes excess sebum, exfoliates the upper layer of skin and unplugs the pores. Carbon particles are penetrated into the pores. Next, the laser energy is absorbed in the skin and explodes the particles. This process causes the inner walls of the pores to reduce in size. The dermal remodeling effect with the Q-switched mode promotes regeneration of collagen and recovers the elasticity in the skin.

In most cases, three to five treatments will be required for optimum and long lasting results. It is recommended that treatment be repeated every two to four weeks for pore size reduction. Return check-ups will be scheduled to monitor and maintain results. Additional treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic at our Harrisburg practice can provide enhanced effects.

While the SPECTRA Laser Peel is extremely effective and long lasting for the treatment of acne and enlarged pores, it is not permanent. To maintain your results you may need to schedule follow up visits, usually once every three months. Dr. Gayner will advise you how to maintain the improved condition of your skin.
