Lip Injections
Lip injections are some of the most popular treatments with our patients from Harrisburg, Lancaster, and York, PA, and beyond. We use the advanced RHA Redensity™ filler because it can tackle two concerns at once – thin lips and vertical lip lines without looking obvious or stiff.
Dr. Scott Gayner is a specialist in the RHA Collection of fillers who trains other providers on their use and is a speaker at professional conferences on behalf of Revance, the company that makes RHA fillers. Dr. Gayner performs all lip injections at our practice, so patients can rest assured that they will receive high standards of care from a top double board-certified facial plastic surgeon.
RHA Redensity lip injections can smooth vertical lip lines while providing a subtle volume boost to lips. To learn more about how Dr. Gayner can help you look your best, request a consultation using our online form or by calling (717) 728-1700.
Why RHA Redensity?
When people hear the term lip injections, they often think of significant plumping to the lips. Lip injections with Redensity, however, are different. They add a relatively subtler dose of volume than the average lip filler while adapting to the natural movements of your lips. Redensity can also smooth vertical lip lines (most visible while performing specific actions such as drinking from a straw) that form around the mouth without making the mouth look stiff or rigid.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is naturally produced in our bodies. The product retains water like a sponge and provides moisture and suppleness to various elements of the body, making it one of the primary building blocks of skin (along with collagen and elastin). As we age, this production slows down significantly, resulting in volume loss that causes lips to thin and vertical lip lines to show even when the mouth is at rest.
Traditional fillers for lip injections use extensively crosslinked HA to maintain their volume. The HA in RHA Redensity closely resembles natural HA found in the skin with less crosslinking. It can plump up the lips while moving and feeling very natural.

Lip injections are a relatively quick, minimally invasive treatment, with each session lasting between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on what is being addressed. The amount of filler used and the number of injections administered will depend on your needs and desired results.
Dr. Gayner places each injection using a very fine needle or microcannula in and around key areas of the lips. He may gently massage the areas for even distribution and shaping. For patients concerned about discomfort from lip injections, we use a short-acting numbing injection to make the visit virtually pain free. Redensity and other fillers in the RHA®Collection are formulated with lidocaine, a pain-relieving agent that further minimizes discomfort.
After treatment, you may experience mild to moderate side effects, such as swelling, bruising, and/or tenderness/numbness at the injection sites. These typically subside within two to three days after injection and do not stop patients from resuming their usual activities. Once any swelling subsides, you will be able to clearly see the effects of the fillers.
How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?
On average, Redensity lip enhancement results last about 12 to 15 months. However, this can vary from patient to patient, and maintenance treatments may be scheduled accordingly.
Complementary Treatments to Lip Injections
Some patients who receive lip injections are often looking for comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Dr. Gayner offers quick-recovery facelifts, as well as nonsurgical facelifts that may include the use of dermal fillers and neuromodulators such as BOTOX Cosmetic.
